An abundance of daisies

"Behold

the azure sea in front of you,

the turquoise sky above you,

the amber mountain beneath your feet,

and the golden daisy in your hands.

How are you not the richest person on earth?"

(Khang Kijarro Nguyen)

A few years ago, I bought a small pot of these little flowers. Without any effort on my part, that one little pot self-seeded and spread so that now they carpet an area of at least 10 metres squared.

The collective noun for a group of daisies should be “an abundance”. Whenever I see this sea of tiny smiling faces, I feel like the luckiest person alive. If I feel sad, they uplift me. If I feel angry, their gentle smiles soothe my soul. They can take root in the merest scrap of soil, in the least promising of circumstances, but can bloom and flourish with intention.

To me, daisies are proof, if proof were needed, that we really can bloom where we are planted. Right now, we are planted here on Earth. Let’s enrich the lives of those around us while we’re here.
